Our History

Since 1886 our funeral home has occupied different locations in the downtown Murray area. The facility at 201 South Third Street, built in 1960, is the fourth site.

Over the years, the profession that helps families at a time of loss and grief has changed. From a simple tradesman who specialized in digging a grave and transporting the deceased, the funeral home as become a site for gathering, problem solving, counseling and support. Licensing and on-going professional training are an important part of today’s service.

Our current location has been renovated several times to keep up with developments in law and tradition as society has changed. Today’s funeral home offers parlor rooms for visitations and wakes, a chapel for funeral and memorial services along with an arrangement conference room, clergy consultation room, family room and coffee lounge.

At J. H. Churchill, we maintain several records of previous funerals we have performed, dating all the way back into the early 1900s. This allows families to explore their genealogy and personal histories.

We never forget that the past is an important prelude to the future.
